TONES

TONES is a lived stop motion and photography series exploring color through daily life, its

monotones on tones on tones.

TONES is a lived photography and stop motion series born from a six-month deep dive into color. Beginning in May 2020, I explored one color through photography, stop motion, food, clothing, music, movement, art and film, building monochromatic sets, sourcing and making props, creating meals, self-portraits, playlists and animations. The project grew into 49 photographs, 28 stop motions and seven color-based music and movie playlists.

The project coincided with my late autism diagnostic process and became a celebration of allowing my monotropic neurology to work the way it naturally wanted to: deeply and expansively. After six months immersed in the project, I celebrated its completion by living one day per color from December 26, 2020 through January 1, 2021: eating, wearing, listening, moving, watching and experiencing each color for a full day.
