YELLOW TONES: CLOTHING
Is there anything better than a walk on a warm, rainy day? For me yellow makes every rainy day brighter and the duck handle helps too. Here’s more about wearing yellow from around the world.
Happiness, fun, optimism, wearing yellow is a cheerful endeavor energizing those around you.
Yellow means many different things in different cultures. While in Western culture yellow is a cheerful color of happiness, it is also that of cowardice and fear.
In France and Germany yellow symbolizes jealousy and weakness. Alternatively in Japan yellow means bravery, refinement and wealth. The royal family in Japan was represented by yellow and warriors wore yellow as a symbol of courage. Similarly in Africa yellow is worn by the upper class, because it is associated with gold. Egypt also associates yellow with gold and it was frequently used to adorn the tombs for the afterlife, associating yellow with mourning. In India yellow is the color of learning and meditation of a higher purpose and golden yellow is sacred for the Hindu religion, which symbolizes the quest for light. In China yellow represents earth, is considered a prestigious color, signifying good luck, associated with religious ceremonies and enlightenment.
Understanding what colors mean in other cultures can help to connect us to our increasingly global world.
